“Wonderful Inn” My husband and I stayed at the Hill House Inn for 2 days. Our room had a balcony with a view of the ocean. It was very pleasant and peaceful. The room was spacious and comfortable. I enjoyed the “retro” feel of the place. The breakfast was basic, but good enough to get you going. The breakfast room had a great view. You walked up a beautiful curved staircase to the breakfast room. I thoroughly enjoyed the lobby area with the celebrity photos and antiques. We would recommend this place as well as stay there again. Room Tip:¬†upstairs for balcony and great view, downstairs if stairs are a problem for you.

“Affordable Luxury” This Inn is a superior choice as the property overlooks the ocean in the distance and is not too near other properties which allows for the quiet enjoyment of a stay there. It is only a 10 minute walk to the main part of town, shops and other venues, including the picturesque and vast landscape that has been carved over the centuries by the ocean. Hill House Inn is famous for having hosted the first six seasons of the hit TV series “Murder, She Wrote” starring Angela Lansbury and no doubt prospered greatly from this popular exposure. The property is well cared for and run by some of the most helpful staff we have ever encountered. Each room is wonderfully appointed with a New England flavor. Fireplaces are in some rooms. One disappointment was that they no longer offer a restaurant on the premises and their breakfast, included in the price, is the atypical continental breakfast offered with the do-it-yourself waffle iron, toaster and only bagels (no loaves of bread). There was fruit, juice and coffee, however, and this is certainly good enough to get the day started. We had a delightful stay and thoroughly enjoyed our trip.

“A Completely Lovely Stay” I stayed 2 nights we had the best, quiet, and restful sleep ever! I was glad I paid a little extra for the balcony room with a great ocean view. The room was large with extra places to sit. The decor matches the antiques in the room, like from the early 1900s.

“Great Getaway” It was peaceful, beatiful and it had a oceanview. The hospitality was great and I can't wait to go again. Being able to staying in Mendocino is so awesome and pleasant. Everyone needs to experience it. Room Tip: choose a room with a balcony or deck.

“Lovely place to stay” This was a lovely, quiet place we stayed two nights. The rooms were pleasant, and had all the niceties required for a stay including free WiFi.

Had a wonderful stay as always. If you want to pamper yourself this is the place to go! Thank you again especially Kathy and Munsoor!

“Charmant!” My wife and I had a lovely stay at this “Inn”. I would describe it rather as a hotel with a rustic and comfortable charm. We were greeted by a young man, Munsoor, refreshingly clean kept and tidy who was old fashioned enough to wear a tie tack! Russian, German, Spanish, French, and English are all apparently spoken at this Inn. We were walked to our room and wished a good night in our native DEUTSCH. Never in our travels were we more kindly received. Before sleeping, we dined at the Mendocino hotel and were discounted 15% due to our room at the Inn. The service was prompt, the food hot and rich. A fine Bouillabaisse was had by me, my wife enjoyed her steak. We hope a return to the inn on our next trip to Mendocino!

We enjoyed our 2 day vacation at the Hill House Inn. We got a great discount using Groupon. The Inn provided 2 nice bottles of wine, gratis, which was a nice touch. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean, with just a bit of a musty smell. Wi-fi was good, long distance & local phone calls were free. The Continental breakfast was delicious and plentiful. We look forward to our next visit.

We stayed in Hill House Inn via the Living Social deal. I would say it just fits the bill. It has an Victorian era architecture. Rooms are not too big and not too small. Best is it located very close to all the shops and activities. Good breakfast and good staff. Since we were visitng Mendocino for the first time - the hotel staff helped us with various details and provided us with map.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hill House Inn. The staff was nice and helpful. We loved our room, patio and the view of the ocean. The room was clean and comfortable with lots of sitting room. We have a 3 year old and 5 year old, and they enjoyed their stay too :) They loved the waffles! Very family/kid friendly. The hotel is located within walking distance to the village. I would stay again and recommend the Hill House to others.

Overlooking the Pacific Ocean & mdash; terrific location! This part of California is so beautiful, and this hotel sits in a prime position up on a hill overlooking Ocean - great location!

It was only one night but we found it to be a very pleasurable and comfortable place to stay. Beautifully furnished with an extremely comfortable bed. We had a service dog with us and we were made very welcome by all members of staff that we came in to contact with. We would definitely return.

My girlfriend and I both loved this establishment. We had our own private patio deck with a huge room. Everyone on the staff was extremely nice and made it seem as though we were the only people in the hotel! I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone!

Excellent location, clean and spacious rooms—what more can you ask for? The Hill House Inn was completely enjoyable. I had read some of the other reviews and was quite frankly a little concerned. I stayed at the end of June in a pet-friendly garden room with a king bed. The room was huge and very clean. We had our own flower filled little courtyard. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean. Absolutely no smell of previous pets. Housekeeping was completely cooperative with any of our requests. All rooms have wi-fi with an excellent signal and very quick speed. Apparently, this is new in the last few months. The rooms have not been decorated very recently and the furniture seems dated but everything is clean and the bed was very comfortable. Our room was very quiet and the hotel is super convenient to the delightful downtown Mendocino. They are affiliated with the Mendocino Hotel which has an excellent upscale restaurant. The Hill House has no restaurant and breakfast is very limited: waffles, bagels, coffee, and juice.. The people at the front desk were always helpful, although sometimes they just couldn't answer our inquiries. A visit to the Mendocino Visitors Center gave us every speck of info we could possibly need. We had an excellent experience here and wouldn't hesitate to come again.

Charming pet friendly hotel walking distance to beautiful Mendocino village. This was my husband and I's first time to visit Mendocino. Being a huge Murder She Wrote fan, I knew this was where some of the episodes were filmed. However, not until I arrived at the Hill House Inn did I realize the hotel was also a backdrop for the show as well. So that was an added bonus! The staff were beyond friendly. They told us some history of the hotel, where to go in the village, and were very accommodating. The rooms are decorated a bit old fashioned, but very clean and comfortable. Decorated a bit like Grandma's house, which isn't a bad thing. The location of Hill House is perfect. You literally walk down the drive way from the Inn and you are steps away from the heart of Mendocino Village. We also brought our two dogs. The room was pet friendly and we had a sliding glass door which led onto a deck, which was very convenient for the dogs. There was plenty of open grass areas for them to roam on a leash. This was a wonderful place to stay. Very peaceful and tranquil. I highly recommend staying at the Hill House Inn.

What a place! My colleagues and I have been visiting Mendocino for a relaxing weekend after a Bay Area consulting trip about every other year for 14 years. We love the Mendocino area for the closeness to wineries and the many options for restaurants. We stumbled on the Hill House in 1997 by chance, but have been returning every since. The rooms and ambiance are incredible. I love getting a room with a gas fireplace and leaving the sliding door open to hear the ocean at night. This is relaxation.

Brilliant Holiday. Have done several riding vacation and we both agree that this was the best ever. The horses, the riding, the scenery, the accommodation (we particularly liked Hill House), food and organization were all great.

Our Trip to Mendocino was just amazing!! We stayed the night and the rooms were just breath taking. We came up for a wedding tasting; the food was just what we were looking for along with Jessica the wedding coordinator. She really knows her stuff. she helped us plan the wedding of our dreams. We are so excited and can't wait to see our dream come true. Thank you so much, your team really is the best!

A quaint inn (the exterior has been used in the show “Murder She Wrote”) with furnishings unique to each room. The room included use of robes, coffee maker, high-end toiletries, and ocean view rooms have a wooden deck with Adirondack chairs overlooking the Pacific

Beautiful coastline, and close to Mendocino downtown makes it attractive to stay here.

A trip up the California coast simply isn’t complete without a stop at Hill House Inn in Mendocino, California. It is a charming destination and a lovely inn. Located approximately 3 hours north of San Francisco, it is reached either by the spectacular US 1, the more scenic coastal route, or Highway 101 which is inland, and a little faster. Once there, you'll fall in love with Mendocino’s particularly scenic coastline—a dream setting for photographers, amateur and professional alike! We were greeted by Mary Jo, with a warm welcome and a pleasant check-in experience. The inn has a cozy feel to it and offers some nice amenities, including select pet-friendly rooms. They offer wi-fi connection in their lobby lounge which is only a matter of a few steps from most of the rooms. My favorite room is #29. I was captivated by the walk along the coast, early in the morning. The sun coming up over the water is just magnificent and watching the activity of the birds will keep you busy. So, make sure you bring a camera memory disc with plenty of space because there are endless shots to be had.

Our second day in Mendocino Town was happier and vastly more appropriate for us. I went up to this Beautiful Place at 5:30am, took one look and raced back to the other place to fetch the baggage and my lovely partner. She was alarmed, then charmed; the instant I opened the door and showed her in. When she smiles, I am happy... Not enough can be said for management that tries to please; it is sufficient to laud Paul, the night clerk/manager. Our room was a lower, no stairs to challenge us. There was a King Bed, a large bathroom area, a commodious table that served us very well—all the comforts! The morning included a wonderful Continental Style Breakfast that was ample. My partner went to her all-day meeting, I drove back and killed time with a paper, a hike along the cliffs and having a lunch that I shouldn’t have. Highly recommended!

Thanks to Sabryyah, and Teresa for all their assistance and good will during our stay at the Hill House. The staff was wonderful, and gracious in meeting all our needs and providing a wonderful reception dinner for our 100 + guests and wedding party. The whole experience was wonderful, the spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, Cabrillo Light house, and coast line in Mendocino made the Wedding experience far exceed our expectations. Thank You, Hill House And Staff.

We traveled from Portland, Oregon down US 101 & Hwy 1 to Mendocino, CA. Staying at different hotels down the coast. This was by far the nicest, friendliest, and most accommodating hotel. When you arrive you walk through beautiful gardens and step into a magnificent hotel lobby. Beautiful decor and warm friendly hotel staff. We were shown different rooms to choose from, one with a garden view and the other a ocean view. The room had a wonderful fire place, king size bed and plenty of closet space. The decor was Victorian in flavor and was very relaxing. Theresa at the front desk recommended a wonderful place for dinner in town. After we walked around the town and then came back to sit by the fire. Beautiful stay for our last night on the coast.
